Took a day trip to Pisa today with a girl from Australia = Brisbane = that I met in my hostel room. We may yet meet up in Rome; and theres another roomie whos got info for Catania in Sicily for me = this place is great!!!! Well we took a train to Pisa and Ill tell you what: people know how to make a buck off the only thing going for their town. First you have to reserve a timed ticket of 15 euros WHAT. Any yet again it was pretty worth it. So we had a fixed price lunch of canneloni with salad; loads of bread with olive oil and basalmic vinegar which I LOVE; and tea to finish. YUM. Then climbed the tower which wouldve been a breeze compared to the duomo in Florence; except that in fact as most people will point out; the tower most defnitely tilts. And while this may not be so apparent from looking at it even close up; it is defnitely hilarious to realize you and everyone a'round you look completely DRUNK trying to navigate stairs that first force your body weight to one side and then the other of the staircase as you go round and round.... theres a couple of stop points along the way for photo ops and at the top are bells and another fantastic view of the Tuscan countryside. Then you go down being about as drunk as when you tried to go up; only now its worse since the steps are worn and slope downward. I tell you; Italy is chock full of cheap entertainment. On our train ride back into Florence we were in the last open car but people kept trying (they were so determined bless their hearts) to get through to this other car that was clearly (at least to us) locked up for good. Italy has a lot of silver linings...
