Where I stayed

I arrived in Songkhla yesterday by bus. The bus dropped me off in a street (somewhere) and I was pretty confused. The guide book recommended the "Amsterdam Guest House" as the best place to stay, so I thought I would take its advice. The only taxi I could find was an old man on a bike with side car (I have a photo), and he stopped and said 'taxi-taxi'. So I said Amsterdam Guest House, he nodded and I jumped on. The poor guy nearly had a heart attack (he didn't realise how heavy me plus both my rucksack and daysack are), but he dropped me off and smiled . . . he had only taken me to the city Aquarium! But he looked so proud of himself, that I couldn't bring myself to argue! I paid him twice as much as the going rate (about 75p) he tried to give me change, but i refused, then I took a photo (which I will upload later) and he cycled off.

Luckily as the Aquarium is a major tourist attraction I easily found a tuk-tuk to take me to the guest house . . . but it's not over yet, when we get to the guest house this lovely Dutch lady runs out, tells me she is closed but says she can recommended another hotel for me to stay in. She tells the tuk-tuk driver in Thai where to take me and waves goodbye! Then two minutes later we arrive at the Narai Hotel. The Thai lady who runs the hotel showed me to a table, said sit, then she ran off and came back with a fresh coconut, with the top cut off and a straw! She said "drink drink please". Once I had finished she took the coconut and ran off, then came back with the top cut off and a spoon so I could eat the fruit inside (not like coconut back home, more like a coconut flavored peach). Then once I was finished with the coconut she check me in. I am here till Sunday, then back to Hat Yai Sunday afternoon!

Songkhla is a quiet place, not much going on, but lots of museums and things to look at.
It's also a lot hotter than the islands or the north!
