we had nine days off at the end of summer and we decided to go to Gualin. a place in china known for its beautiful mountain landscape.
on holidays in china, everyone moves and so u have to get your train tickets in advance or you wont be going anywhere. luckily, this holiday wasn't a big one so we were able to get a last minuet train. unfortunate, there were no seats, so, for the 23 hour train ride  we were standing. the people we were standing next to moved along a bit on their seat so we were able to take turns in sitting down.
we got there and found our hostel easily. the temperature was allot cooler in the shade than it is in wuxi which was nice.
on our first day we wandered around. the town is quite small, there's a market area that is good for getting souvenirs at a bargained rate! and lots of restaurants, but as this is a tourist place, most places are expensive to eat in. having stood for 23 hours on the train, we were a bit knackered so we were in bed pretty early.

the next day we walked along the edge of the river just taking in the views. we also took a bamboo (it was actually bamboo shaped plastic) boat down the river. it was pretty good as it was only me and Ben on there and we got to see more of the mountains and the water buffalo!
Ben had a swim in the river and we spent some time in the market getting some gifts.

the next day we had to return home so in the afternoon we got the train back but this time we had beds! for the first time ever we got beds rather than the seats. and it was soooooooo much better. id defiantly be going bed class next time its a journey over 20 hours!

we were sad to leave the cooler, fresher air of gualin but returning to wuxi was nice and going to our house rather than another hostel like we did when we were traveling was good too.

the day after we got back, we went with Dave on a bike ride to the TV tower. it took allot of leg power to get up the mountain, i had to walk the bike most of the way! but it was a good view once we were up there. i have already added the photos of that trip i the entry before, but the pics attached to the entry are all from the gualin trip.
