We arrived in Dali in the morning, and found a city that was unlike anything we have seen so far in china. The streets were all paved in Grey stone and there were streams and water falls running through all the streets which made it look so great. It was a refreshing change to be in a city like this, as the previous places have been quite poor areas. However the city is for tourists, every shop is a tourist trinket shop all selling near enough the same thing. It was nice to walk around and let ourselves feel like tourists for a change. We had food in a place that had food in bowls outside, you choose 5 things for the bowls which are served up on a plate for you then you get as much rice as you want and all for 30p! We ate with the places family one day and a mass of school kids the others. It was the place where all the school kids went after school so we had to get in there before they had all the good stuff!

 
After walking around for a day we went to our hostel, (which we were cornered into going to, they have sneaky ways of getting you in the door)

The next day we changed hostels as the 1st  one wasn't very friendly, and flip are we glad we did

! the three pagodas hostel was OK as a hostel, the garden was beautiful, with chair swings, a pond and stream but best of all...there were so many animals!!! There was 3 dogs, a sheep, ducks 4 rabbits and a monkey! it was good to see them all but they were not really looked after as well as they could have been.

We went back into the city for the day, and rented a bike, i sat on the rack whilst ben peddled hehe. We cycled down to the lake and around a small village and through some farmers fields. It was a great ride and we saw the lake for free because we went through the village near by.

After we gave the bike back we wandered through the streets again until the evening where we sat on the roof of our hostel and drank beer, also Ben actually beat me at pool!
