Opps, I can't believe I let a whole month pass without updating my blog! Thanks for all of you for continuing to visit my blog and I will try to get better about updating it!

Well as you can imagine it has been a busy month. I am getting settled into our regular program at school and things are starting to pick up and my time continues to be consumed with work and enjoying my time in Taiwan. I will try to highlight some of the things that have happened this past month.

First off, school! The regular school program has started and I am loving my class. I have a combined 1st and 2nd grade class. I am loving this younger age. They are still excited about school and like doing silly things. They aren't too cool for school yet :) I only have 9 students which is awesome! 2 girls and 7 boys!  I have a wide range of English abilities. I have some students who have just started English class and don't understand a lot of what I say and others who are able to read, write and speak English really well. It will be a challenge this year to make sure I am reaching all my students. It is really nice to only have 9 students because I will be able to experiment with lots of different approaches in the classroom and it won't seem as overwhelming as trying to do it with a class of 25 students. It is a nice way to try out some different differentiation inside the classroom.

We recently had a Meet n' Greet with the parents. It was really nice to meet the parents early in the year and see what their concerns were right away. I also have more parents that speak English this year so it makes communication so much easier. It is nice to be able to catch them after school and talk to them without needing a translator.

I have also been busy at school with my administration duties. It has definitely been a good learning experience already! Since out school is new we have been busy with getting things set up. I have had the job of helping to get our library set up. I have been helping with ordering books, organizing the books and setting up a check out system. Currently we don't have a librarian so it keeps me busy. We are also preparing for Halloween. For Halloween we have a big carnival that we open up to the public. It is a lot of planning but should be lots of fun.

This past month we also celebrated a holiday here. It was Moon Festival. They celebrate by having BBQ's on this holiday. Our principal had a BBQ for all of the foreign staff. She invites us all over to her house and she has amazing food! After dinner we go inside for some KTV (karaoke) and dancing. It was a fun night! Moon Festival is also one of the few holidays that we get off from school. It happened to be a Wednesday but it was a nice mid-week break!

We are now approaching the end of the typhoon season here. We only had two typhoon scares here in Taichung. We never ended up getting hit by any typhoons in Taichung. A couple weeks ago we had a close call with Typhoon Fanapi. It looked like we were going to get pretty hard but it ended up hitting farther South and we didn't get anything in Taichung. Looks like no Typhoon Days this year.

I have also been busy planning my trip to Japan! I will be taking a trip 9 day trip in November by myself to Japan! I am very excited for the opportunity to explore another country on my own! It will definitely be an exciting experience! Since I won't be hunting again this year, I needed to find some other way to get some excitement in my life :) I have booked my flights already. I am planning on traveling from Tokyo to Osaka. I will keep you updated on the planning process and there will be plenty of pictures after the trip!

I made another trip to the Modern Toilet (Bathroom themed restaurant) with Tara, Mike and my roommate. It is always fun to visit! I have included some pictures from this trip.

So far I am enjoying my second year. Though I am sad to not have all my buddies from last year. We have all been staying in contact but it is definitely weird not having them here this year. This past weekend we had a Skype conference call between 5 of us. It was me in Taiwan, Brent and Michelle in South Africa, Katie in Wisconsin and Emily in Iowa! We were all able to talk to each other at the same time! Technology really is great! We normally all had wine nights together but this Sunday we are planning a wine day! We are all going to skype again and have a glass of wine together. It is 9:00AM in America, 4:00PM in South Africa and 10:00PM in Taiwan! I can't wait!

I will have an update about a trip to Taipei soon!

Until then...Love ya and miss ya!
