This past weekend I traveled to the Dead Sea with two Jordanians I had met the past weekend and it was amazing!  On the ride up there were families all alongside of the road for miles and miles and miles.  They had camels and hookas and all the kids and cousins and it looked like a lot of fun....reminded me of hanging out in the Black Hills of South Dakota with my family....except there we never had camels or hooka :) The weather was perfect and the sea was actually warm enough to swim in!  We got there at around 4 after about a 45 minute drive, checked into the Marriott hotel, and then walked around outside.  The weather was not too hot and not too cold so it was very comfortable.  I didn't think I'd be able to swim in the Dead Sea yet because it would be too cold, but to my surprise the water was fine once you immersed yourself and got used to the mildly chilly water!  So we swam around for awhile and then got out and went to the spa where we sat the in Jacuzzi.

Afterwards we went to one of the restaurants at the Marriott for drinks and while we were there a belly dancer came out! My first belly dance show in the Middle East!! She was Russian and not very good though.  All she did was float around.....I don't like it when belly dancers do that because it's really boring and doesn't take a lot of skill...I like it when belly dancers move their bodies in crazy ways, that's the art of it in my opinion.  I would like to belly dance here in Jordan but the reputation is not something I would want to have!  I'm still looking into teaching though if I have the time.

Following drinks we went to another restaurant at the hotel and ate. Oh my goodness was the food ever good!  It was a buffet with a bunch of salads, hot food, and desserts....I ate way too much but it was worth it!  The next day we woke up and went down to the pool to tan.  After a little while we went into the Dead Sea again and then put mud all over our bodies.  It was the craziest feeling and it also obviously looked weird.  We couldn't really move....in the picture we took we look mad/sad/apathetic due to the fact that we couldn't smile because our face was frozen in the position that the mud had dried to....I would compare what my skin looked like to elephant skin!

After it fully dried we got back in the Dead Sea to wash it off and ended up staying in there for quite awhile.  The Dead Sea is also a crazy experience.....you can't swim; all you can do is float.  You can try to "stand" in the water but it's impossible; your legs just float/bounce back up to the surface of the water.  It's a really good workout though if you pretend to "run" in the water because you're pushing all the salty, heavy water :)  Your skin also gets an amazing spa treatment....after this weekend my skin was soooo soft from all the salt and mud!!  After "swimming" in the Dead Sea we laid out again by the pool, then went in the sauna, then got ready for lunch, ate lunch, and then went home......I absolutely can't wait to go back to the Dead Sea soon!!!

Hey. It sounds like you had a great experience floating/swimming in the Dead Sea. Kudos to you for making every day of your time in Jordan an adventure. I think if there was a belly dancing competition between you and the Russian woman- you would win without a doubt.I wish I could write more at the moment- yet I have a lot of studying to catch up on. However, I wanted to say hello. Talk to you later and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
