Where I stayed
Today we had a slow start to the day which was nice, although I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep. I went for a run for about 45 mins of so down the river and back. Its so nice around here, very tranquil and peaceful and doesn’t feel like you are in a big city- well the size of Christchurch anyway. I was treated to croissants for breakfast which these guys only have on Sundays – again sooooo good and for lunch, again treated to another cooked meal. Roast chicken, with cubed potatoes, a mixed vege pattie, topped with a really good sauce made from prunes, chestnuts and juices from the chicken – like a wee stuffing. I had never had chestnuts before so was quite surprised – and cooked prunes are good too. And almost forgot – dessert.. mmm more sweet things. A chocolate tart topped with pears and walnuts, homemade too
After lunch we went to the Chateau in Villandry
We just visited the gardens of this chateau as the inside is not as interesting apparently. Im really glad they took me as I would not have visited it otherwise. There is a wee forest on the hill where you can get really good views of the gardens – the pictures are probably the best way to explain it, but they were pretty amazing. We then drove to another chateau - Chateau Usse, as it was not far away and we just looked from the outside. It was like a magical castle you see in childrens books, very cool
So I have been extremely lucky with my hosts – they have definitely gone out of their way to show me around and feed me so well, which is extra nice since Ashley is away. If we ever couch surf again I have no idea how anyone else is going to match up to them. But I am very grateful to say the least. For dinner tonight, again a great meal was a salad with salmon, walnuts, apple, sundried tomato, lettuce of course and dressing, i think that was all, the usual French bread and cheese course and the left over dessert from lunch. Yum again!
