Heya all, just got back from our short trip to Edinburgh and then Ireland. Stayed with Kate's cousin who lived right in the city centre of Dublin, not as pretty as Edinburgh which encouraged us to get out a bit. Went to Kilkenny which was really nice however to get 30km further south to see the rock of cashel was going to take us an extra 5hrs!! The transport system here is very hot and cold. Have decided that the best way to see this place is to have your own car and just cruise around. What dublin specialises in is the night life, the temple bar area is apparently world renowed and people come from all over europe to party there. We saw a zillion crazy women out on hens nights (bucks nights have been banned due to the carnage) and there is a pub literally every 5 metres, all completely stuffed full. it was a bit annoying to begin with as it is totally impossible to have a quiet drink and chat somewhere, but you quickly get into the swing of things :). A pleasant surprise was the fact that the apartment we were staying in was directly opposite the old Jameson distillary, happy days. The people here have a great self-deprecating sense of humour, so we heard a number of funny stories concerning their engineering prowess etc (they have just finished building a major multi-billion euro tunnel specifically to redirect all the trucks and big vehicles which are clogging up the highways -- the only problem? the finished construction is to short -- the big european trucks can't actually fit into the bloody thing hehe). Hope all is well back in Oz.
