We stayed in Sydney after the miners museum tour in Glace bay and did an evening walking tour of the harbour where the luxury liners come into the city. Huge 60 ft. high fiddle on display on the dock. Another "biggest one in the world" type of deals.
We travelled the very picturesque famous Cabot Trail around the northern part of Cape Breton Island. The leaves are probably about half their real brilliant colors. We still saw some brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and greens that made the hillsides brilliant with color. There's a big festival here next week called Celtic Colours which lasts a whole week in a bunch or different places. The leaves will be in their full spendor then I'm sure. We went right up to Meat Cove where the road just ended in someone's yard. There was awesome views from there of rocky cliffs, huge waves and just ocean as far you could see. On the way back from there we stopped by the road and just looked down over the guard rail to the ocean below and out and saw some small groups of whales or dolphins moving up the coast a couple hundred feet out. I wish we wouldn't have forgotten the binoculars! That night we ended up in a barn where there was a (kayley) concert with a few fiddlers and good old jigs and reels. After the concert they cleared the chairs away and played some music for a good old fashioned square dance. Yes, Larry and I did a few sets with the very helpful locals and had a good time. The next day was my birthday and we had purchased tickets to go to the musical "Anne" in Charlottetown. It was totally awesome. Great actors who had fantastic singing voices in beautiful costumes with amazing choreography telling the classic story of the orphan Anne Shirley of Green Gables. After the play was over we visited with Kevin's grade three teacher who recognized Laurel as we were returning to our seats after the intermission of the play. They left Olds on August the 20th and drove out with their RV and truck and will head for home soon. I'm so glad we are flying and not driving. Yesterday and today are really just discovery drives of Prince Edward Island as all the attractions are closed for the season. We did manage however to find a huge restaurant called Fisherman's Wharf that seats 500 people with a 60 foot salad bar. We each had our own Lobster complete with eyes and tentacles. It was actually quite good and the waitress was very helpful. I'm sure they recognize us visitors a mile away. We stayed last night at the Kindred Spirits Inn and got upgraded from a regular room to one of the luxury suites with king size bed and jacuzzi tub and had a very lovely stay. Very nice place. They have golf packages here and we visited with a nice couple from Ontario who were doing just that. If we ever learned how to play golf or decided to take it up as a hobby we could maybe do the same thing. Anyways we fly home tonight so I guess this has been our Eastern Canada experience. Wonderful to see some of Canada and experience the east.
