We thought we were leaving Texas, but didn't quite make it, we are near the border with Louisiana near Shreveport.  Tomorrow we hope to make Vicksburg, similar to Gettysburg the scene of a well known Civil War battle.

Fun yesterday, Bob & Mary Sue's pool/volleyball party, although I have used it for a few outgoing calls I had not received a call on my mobile/cell phone since buying it in California.  Have missed a couple but not wanting to do that again I took it up to the backyard pool, and jumped in, with it still in my pocket!!

Second one I have drowned, first one was in the toilet but if I tell you that story I will have to kill you!!  Anyway today we decided a new one was was essential so stopped at Palastine for lunch at Walmart and bought new phone for $29.95 with 300 minutes on it good till the 9th Oct, do us till we get to Florida.

Nice ride today, we decided to head a bit north/east and avoid Interstate 10 which we have done before and it is a boring pain.  79 which was todays ride runs through really nice countryside, all lush and green despite the lack of rain, some nice and some ordianry small towns, and a better bike road than most we have been on.  Good surface roads with long sweepers with the only decision being can I leave the cruise on and still make this bend at 130 k's, you will be pleased to know we did, just a couple I chickened out on.  Felt the co-pilots knees clench a couple of times during the 160k passing moves on some quite speedy other traffic, But all in all the handbrake didn't work overtime!!  The bikers will understand that language

We stopped Carthage tonight near Shreveport almost on the State border with Louisiana in our most expensive motel yet.  First quoted at $149.00 per night at which we frowned and it suddenly became $90, which was heavy but we were hot and tired so that was that.  The day started quite mild in the mid 80's but gradually climbed to the mid 90's so we were pleased to get into an air conditioned room.  Ordered in Pizza for dinner and Lona watched a movie.
