On the road, it was the same old, same old. Drive a few hundred miles, stop and eat; rinse and repeat. I got stuck in both Cincinnati and Columbus traffic. I hit the Cincinnati traffic and figured it was about the right time for rush hour, but it was still lousy to be in the stop-and-go traffic. I did, however, get to see the Barnes & Noble/Dick's Sporting Goods store along I-71. Really?! I hit the Columbus traffic around 7:00p local time, and thought it was a little late to have rush hour traffic that was worse than the traffic in Cincinnati. Well, it turns out the traffic was backed up for five miles because of a car accident. GRR!!
My next stop was in Zanesville. I had determined that I was meeting Stevie at Kickin Kountry, and I decided I didn’t want to show up in my rumpled jeans and t-shirt, and I made up my mind that I would change. I pulled into a quiet BP station, pulled the clothes I wanted out of my suitcase, and since it a very inactive gas station, I just changed right there in my car. By this time I felt very spy-like, from changing in the car, so I took it a step further and grabbed my toothbrush and make up and braved the gas station bathroom to freshen up. It was absolutely perfect! Not too scummy at all! I was thrilled! And, still felt spy-like. It was a great success.
From Zanesville it was another hour to Kickin, and I hit the road again. Sometime between when I changed and got back in my car it got completely dark out, and I was all alone, driving in the dark. I had a flash to any of the scenes from Supernatural when they are in the car driving through the night with the white road lines flashing before their eyes.
I was absolutely thrilled to see Stevie when I finally made it to Kickin. It was not very happening though, so I felt like I got al gussied up for nothing
We didn’t eat until we were back at Stevie’s house. My dinner consisted of a very soggy turkey sandwich on a pretzel roll. It was so slimy with the oil from the grilled mushrooms and just not satisfying. We were really tired by this point, clearly demonstrated when I asked her how her churken sandwich was, she said it was great and asked me how my ticky sandwich was. Wow…! After midnight dinner, Stevie realized there was a little card at the bottom of her food bag advertising the Sheetz card program. There was a random selection of words that ended with "z" to emphasize the “z” in Sheetz. For example, we had the freebiez and Shweetz. Then Stevie decided it was a grand idea to add a “z” to every word that ended in an “s” and read me the entire brochure.
Then it was almost 1:00a and Stevie was falling asleep at the table, so we decided it was finally bed time. Before she passed out she tossed me a pillow case. I went upstairs to her room where I was sleeping, and was very excited to lay down after spending the better part of the past 14 hours in a car. It was very disconcerting to have Orlando Bloom’s face (as Legolas) to sleep against all night…
