Well we made it to Chile after our 4000m high salt flat tour. Immediately after crossing the border we dropped to 2000m where there is mas oxygen!
So far Chile is very different because it isn´t. Gone is the street meat, traditional dress, chicken buses, and gold teeth. Replaced with a very developed, clean, and fashion forward country. A nice change, but sometimes it is the differences that make traveling an adventure. The one difference is the Chilean accent so we´ve been relearning some words and numbers.
The town of San Pedro de Atacama, where we are, is located in the driest part of the world, hence the chapped lips and dry mouth all day. The town is sort of like Banos, Ecuador without rain; cute, touristy, and a bit expensive (lunch was $12!!) or perhaps also what we image Scottsdale, AZ looked like 200 years ago with adobe houses and dusty roads. We would have loved to stay longer but we had seen most of the local sites and had a date with luxury in Santiago!
