Spending a beautiful sunny day on Isla del Sol = Ridiculously Cheap!
After a refreshing sleep away from the Peruvian protesters we caught an 8:00AM boat ride to Isla Del Sol (Island of the Sun) where the Inka beleived the sun and the moon were born. It is also Beavisī favourite place in the world, for those MTV youth out there...
Lake Titicaca makes us a little bit home sick actually. Now, not enough to actaully come home, but still a little yearning. Why? Because this huge lake 4km above sea level in the middle of the Andes looks very similar to the Okanagan
Our original plan was to spend a night on the Island, so we brought our entire packs. After checking out The Rock of the Puma (which Titicaca means in Quechua, sorry Beavis), the sacrifice table, some ruins, the fountain of youth, and some Inka stairs we were ready to take the next boat back to Copacabana. We lugged those packs for 5 hours in the ridiculously thin air for nothing! Argg... On the bright side it will be good training for Arikīs Ice Trek later this week.
While hiking across the Island there were several Island Trolls along the path insisting you purchase a ticket for the area of the Island you were walking through. We have no idea if this is official or if the money goes towards infrastructure or anything worthwile because there were just random dudes on the trail asking if you have your ticket, if you didnīt, of course he had one to sell you.
The best part of the day was just enjoying the scenery around us. The lake has this amazingly clear water, the sky at this altitude is a beautiful royal blue, and in the distance sit the the snow capped peaks of the Andes.
