Arrived late into Salento and found our way to the hostel.  The owner is a british guy who converted an old Planation into a hostel, aplty named The Plantation House.  The place was almost full so we had to take the top bunks in the dorms.  Made us think that oringally the trip was supposed to be an extended honeymoon...not a lot of romance sleeping on seperate top bunks in a dorm full of people and a bathroom with no shower curtain and muddy floors.  Still we have a lot to be thankful for.

We woke up early to catch the 7am jeep to the edge of the Cocora Valley Park.  It was just us and some locals in a 4 passenger jeep with 12 passengers.  Safety is a different concept here but made for an intersting ride.

The Cocora valley is famous for lush hill sides, insanely tall palms, and humingbirds.  The circular trek took about 5 hours.  First the lush hillsides with tall palms and lots of cows.  Then a dense cloud forrest and several river crossings.  Then we hiked 1km up to a horse stable on the side of the valley for a nice nap.  Even though itīs cool Arik managed to get another sunburn while having a snooze on a bench.  The rest of the walk took us down from cloud forrest, to pine forrest, back into the lush grass and tall palm trees.

Back in town we had the local specialty for lunch (trout, beans, rice and plantain), a hot shower and a nap.  We also got an update on the financial crisis and stock market drops, we feel deeply for everyone affected.

Tommorow were going horseback riding to some waterfalls and then touring a local coffee farm to learn the process.

Even though itīs been less than 2 weeks we have already seen so much, met so many people, and had an amazing time.  Despite Colombiaīs reputation it has proven to be an amazing country.  The people are so friendly, the landscape so beautiful and diverse, and for these budget travellers the price is right.

Sunday night in Westbank
Well, as we write this, you are on the bus to Ecuador. When we were telling Stephanie how long the bus ride is, she said, 'Oh well, Charis will sleep the whole time anyway!'.

Sure enjoy your pictures - Columbia looked beautiful. Look forward to seeing Ecuador!

Love Mom and Dad
