This morning we took a ridiculous bus ride to Santa Marta, had to switch buses 2 times and waste over an hour waiting for the bus to fill, but we made it.  The Bus showed dubbed versions of White Chicks and Date Movie.  Not big hits in Canada but the people on the bus sure enjoyed them.  IŽve noticed shows with over acting do well after dubbing.  For example King of Queens was huge when Arik was in Germany.  Conversely, Seinfeld was not.  Obviously one is easier to translate than the other.  After the painfully slow bus experience we decided to fly to Bogota from Cartagena.

Santa Marta has a nice main street with Palms and a good vibe.  The beach is nicer than in Cartagena but we are both yet to touch the water.  As of now the plan is to  hangout in Santa Marta tomorrow morning and then take the bus to Tayrona National Park for a 2 hour hike into what many people claim to be paradise on earth.  We will probably stay there a few days and then head west along the coast towards Cartagena.  Arik is thinking about completing his PADI diving course around here as it is only $200, but weŽll see how we feel after the park.

So far everything is reasonably cheap here:
4 hour bus ride    $12
Hostel                  $4
Beer                    70 cents
Fried pastry thing 50 cents.

The boggling thing about Colombia, and every Latin American country weŽve even been to, is the fact there are 500 stores in a row all selling the same thing: chicklets, beer, coca-cola, pile of local fruit, smokes, chips and chocolate bars.  There is some variation but not a lot.  It would be interesting to hear the strategy behind this; any Latin American economists out there?

Anyways, off to the beach tomorrow to get our year long tan going.
