Where I stayed
Did I say we stayed at Buffalo Bill's hotel last night? In Cody (named after our eponymous hero) and displaying the original cherrywood bar backdrop,it was good fun and a departure from the lifeless motels that are seemingly the constant of any such trip as this. They are all inevitably so similar that we feel that we are in the same room wherever we are.Its a bit weird.
In keeping with our new found need to get back to basics we skipped breakfast in the hotel and made our way quite early after first light. We had a great breakfast in a cafe at Greybull which was quite busy.Apparently the locals have a tradition of going there for breakfast on a Sunday morning - some before or after church but mainly to just meet up.Very sociable. We must say hello to Charlie who took time out to speak to us.
So a fairly uneventful drive but good progress eastward.Pitched up back at our regular Day's Inn who seem very agreeable to offering a couple of bedraggled travellers an excellent rate.Always welcome at the end of a day
So Buffalo Bill - outlived all four of his daughters and died in .....1917.Seems strange to think that Wyatt Earp died in 1930s.
Well, Martins really told you most of today - the main thing wasgetting further East so we could regain our schedule. With the forecast of the weather turning sour on us, we need to make sure we have some time in hand in case we encounter problems with snow. And of course, the sooner we get East, the less likely we are to have any problems if the weather does turn bad. So far its been OK, and everypone tells us that if it dows snow this early, then it wont last - are they simply being nice to us, or is that true?
Last night reception told us that the clocks would go back that night, however they then phoned through to say its next week. Dont think they really know! But then, I dont normally, so cant blame them!
Most of the scenery today was quite ordinary when you compare it against what we have had the past 10 days or so. But anyway, there were sparks of brilliance, and even the ordinary here is enjoyable. We went through the Bighorn Mountains, which were most enjoyable.
Dinner was at a Chinese restaurant, as the other places within walking distance were all fast food. The food was satisfactory, but for the first half of the time we were there, the guy spent his time hoovering the carpetss, which is not the best way to make customers feel at ease!
Mileage today was 375, which is good going. Climbed a total of 16138 ft, to a max of 9084ft.
