Left Bedford station at 8.30 am, uneventful trip to Heathrow. The Heathrow Express is quite good, straight through not stopping like on the tube.
Checked the baggage, went through security, no problems. Quite a queue for security, but I guess thats normal.
Plane was about 15 minutes tlate taking off. We were comfortable in that we had 3 seats between the 2 of us, so there was a bit of room. The guy behind me kept kicking the back of my seat - why do people have to do that?
2 drinks at lunch time - I guess they do that so everyone has a good sleep and doesnt bother the cabin crew! Anyway, we dozed on and off through a lot of the flight, which helps to overcome the jet  lag. They had a film with subtitles, so i could watch my first in flight movie in many years!

Arrived at LA and queued for ages to get through their Immigration. However the guy I got was very friendly, which was totally unlike most of the Immigration guys I've experienced in USA.
Eventually got through everything and caught a shared shuttle bus to the hotel. He drove around the airport a couple of times, hoping to pick up more passengers, but there were only the 3 oof us (one guy going somewhere else in the area.)
The traffic was amazing, often there were 6 lanes in each direction, and the traffic was solid. Stop start driving, altho most of the time we were moving, often quite fast, max speed was 69mph, in a 55 zone!
He didnt know where the hotel was so he took us to the general area, then I had to direct him from my satnav. Just as well, I'd marked it late last night!
Hotels quite good, bit noisy, but thats the traffic, theres a plunge pool, the beds are fine.

Went for dinner at a Mexican restaurant -  the only place to eat we could find.
Then back to the hotel for an early night, afetr all, body time is 4am.

Martin's Moments
So now its Friday morning and we are due to be collected by Gerald Allen who has been housing Stanley for us these last couple of months. How lucky we have been to find these people.Saw a tiny humming bird this morning and thakfully weather a little more pleasant than yesterday (at moment). Was 31 and pretty humid and quite uncomfortable during the night.
So.... a little apprehensive. We have to re-commission the car,get fuelled up and then hurl ourselves in to the fray.Just hope volume of traffic eases as we edge out of LA.So far have not been obviously earmarked as aliens - must be our hispanic looks that give us cover.I guess LA is such a melting pot that nearly everybody comes from somewhere else.Just the noise and level of activity comes as such a shock to the senses. Its like Istanbul but no way around it.
We are off to Solvang this am where Roger aand Jesmary's friends live and who have given us our US convenience address.Apparently its the Danish capital of America which coincidentally what we had for breakfast. How neat is that? I wonder if they do bacon...

Hi, Just received your message (5.10 pm Pacific time) I am less than 120 miles north of your location.
Please advise a phone number asap so I can communicate. You have just hit California in the midst of a 2 day heat wave. Wind blowing directly east to west
I live within 500 yards of the cool Pacific but no relief, this happens but once a year. Here in Morro Bay 92F, San Luis Obispo 101F, but right now its cooling down.

So glad you haven`t cheered up over the summer Roger! It would n`t be the same without you grumbling , keep it up! Well Mr, Fox has packed his bags and crawled back into his den and the Arctic winds are coming in next week so less of your moaning about the heat over there as we are going to be basking in freezing tenperatures next week.Best foot forward boys!

Ahh, the journey begins again. How nice it will be to enjoy your adventures again. LA is one of those places you just want to get out off, at least I did. Good luck chaps, and be generous with your descriptions of places and the people you encounter. That way at least we can savour the journey with you both.!!
