Set off at 8.00 prompt. Had family there to wish us well. First stop was at Blunham to get some petrol! Then off, down the M1, M25, M20 to Folkestone. Car went well, no problems. Got to the Tunnel in plenty of time, in fact we were transferred onto the train an hour before the one we booked on. Just had time to buy a sandwich for lunch and we were csalleed for last boardings.
In fact there was very little traffic on the train, so it was no problem.
Martin went to ask the guys supervising the boarding whether we could go on the lower deck - I didnt fancy driving up the ramp to the upper deck as all the people around us had to. Their comment was along the lines "We do have some common sense"!
We wrere parked right behind a very flask Audi R8 sports car, the guys in it came over to talk about our car! Usually I guess they have people admiring theirs, so it must have been a change for them!
Off at the other side and we drove across the top of France. Once again no problems, and we managed to go a little way past our targetted Reims, stopping at Chalons En Champagne. Off for dinner, and now its back to the room to do admin and get a nights sleep.

Martin - seems amazing that two years after buying car and about one year after setting date,we actually did leave on time.Things were pretty manic in last 6 weeks but all involved put in the extra effort.Brian and Dave brilliant work on preparing car, repainting it in more traditional style.Philip the metal magician and Alan for what has turned out to be a most unusual bonnet but one with a unique style which enhances a sedate old saloon.Colin and Mark for not sucking their teeth when I present them with daft ideas and very little time left.Above all Dave Palmer for his mechanicking.Derek,Richard and Graham thank you for your patient technical support. And Lew for the priceless commodity of enthusiasm.
It is only the first day and thankfully pretty uneventful but always remember:

"The sons of the Prophet were hardy and bold
And quite unaccustom'd to fear
(to be continued -keep a note)

349 miles, av speed 40.1 Max speed 58.

Alison - well done, boys! Great first day. Nice Oscar speech, Martin, shame about the lack of punctuation! We broke into the account to upload some photos of the packing and departure. Josh had a enjoyable day in Cardiff despite the disappointing result (19-13 Wales-Ireland) - it all fell apart in the last 10 minutes as usual. 8 pints of the black stuff helped to soften the blow, thankfully. Looking at the details of the average speed etc, I'm sure the speed limit is well above 40mph so feel free to put your foot down! Throw some of those spares out the window! A bientot!
