Where I stayed
Set off today annd drove from the desert into Death Valley. Its the hottest place in USA and includes the lowest place in USA.
The scenery is amazing. I know that I've used that word too much on this trip, but anything else doesnt do it justice. The mountains are imposing and they go on forever. I've seen mountains before, such as the Alps, and they are good, but these are good and good and good again.I doubt that the pictures I took will do it justice.
We went doen to Badwater, which is the lowest point in USA, and the temperature there was 109F. Apparently thats not hot, July can be well above that. I didnt find the 109 to be that uncomfortable, but that may have been because the aircon was very efficient. On the way back we went through Artists Drive, which is a road through a variety of different coloured rocks/mountains. This place must be a geologist's dream.
Eventually we left the mountainous regions and drove into Las Vegas. What a total difference. Here everything is neon lights, fountains, garish, and OTT. But amazing for all that. Free transport to the strip, free parking if you drive. Buildings that tower upwards in their lights. The fountain display at Bellagios is a sight to behold. Fountains covering 100 yards, all spouting and moving in time to the music. They have a display every 15 minutes, and its all free, just to attract you to their casino. Got a crick in my neck just from walking arount gazing upwards!
