After a few weeks in the capital,  and not many boy activities to do, they threaten to start their own revolution.  In BA,  "la manifestacióna" is a daily occurrence so the garçons seemed to have picked up on style and technique.  We left Buenos Aires to sail to Colonia Del Sacramento in Uruguay.  Let me redefine the floating part of our excursion.  It is the first trip at sea where I have actually experienced complete weightlessness.  I realized during the everlasting 45 minutes on the river that one does not need to be in space to feel this uncomfortable.  If people were not being sick in the boat, they were as soon as they hit le "plancher des vaches" (land).  EDude and I were a great shade of Uruguayan sea green...lovely!

Luckily for us, we recovered our land legs quickly; nothing like a swerving taxi ride to our digs to help the matter.  Colonia turned out to be a very pleasant three day sojourn away from the big city.  It is a walled town complete with old buildings, cobbled stones, dogs racing golf carts (dogs winning), crafts, old trees, boutiques, restaurants, singers and mimes.  If you know Ty, he is mesmerized by mimes...could be his retirement hobby!

I ate the best beef of our trip at the Blanco and Negro restaurant.  Could have sliced it with a spoon...and the sauce!!!! Everywhere we went, people were sipping on "Mate"; the national drink of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.  It is a very strong infusion of yerba mate (tea leaves) and water.  It is served in a hollow calabash gourd.  The straw is a bombilla traditionally made of silver.  It takes time to acquire the taste for this drink and you get quite a buzz from the caffeine.

In Colonia, the weather cooperated, the locals were very friendly and it was a safe little haven where we could relax and not always worry about safety issues.
