What is happening in Myanmar at the moment is sad and beyond belief. I am not sure what information is getting through to the Western side of the world but from what we are seeing on the news or reading in the papers is that people are being killed and at least 700 Buddhist monks and 500 locals have been reported missing because of the protesting.
Travelling through South East Asia for the last 3½ months, my family and I have embraced the gentle traditions and have observed the kindness and acceptance of the peaceful Buddhist population. For instance, an event as simple as sweeping a floor is done using special soft brooms to ensure that the insects are not killed during the process.
We never crossed over to Myanmar but have met many Burmese refugees in the northern moutain tribal villages in Thailand. They had escaped from their country to live happily and contently with very little.
It is frightful what is happening in Myanmar; innocent people and the most revered members of the population are being killed. Valid petitions to help stop the violence are circulating on the web. Let's make our pen mightier than the sword and bring as much attention to these atrocities to stop this insanity. Life needs to get better in Myanmar.
