We all met back at 4pm and had some cake and coffee before boarding the ferry. - we were directed to dock 3 as the correct ferry to take us back to the Bell Tower. When we arrived back at Fremantle, we were the only group still on the ferry when a cabin steward came up and informed us that this was the end of the line for the ferry and that the last ferry out to the Bell Tower in Perth had already left. Whoops! The ferry office called a maxitaxi for us, and we waited about 20 minutes for it to arrive. It was all part of the great adventure.
After some confusion about what we would do, we met today at the Bell Tower in Perth and took morning ferry out to Rottnest Island (www.rottnestisland.com) with Angela's hosts - Amanda Lambros and Owen James. We arrived in time for lunch on the island at Dome (the Aussie version of Starbucks). The island is absolutely beautiful, and except for some very limited commercial enterprises and relatively simple cabins, it is amazingly undeveloped, and there are no cars on the island. There is a small marsupial called quokka that roams around freely - the early dutch visitors though that they were very large rats, giving the island its name. Jim, Erik, Angela, Amanda and Owen went to the north side of the island to snorkel. The water was chilly but relatively clear. Tommy and Eugenia took a shipwreck tour around the island, and Tommy then went to museum while Eugenia walked around the island.
