Picture this: 2 girls with backpacks nearly as big as themselves standing by a bus stop. Next thing you know, you see a girl running towards them. As soon as they see her, they start running towards her too, screaming 'Ahhhhhhhh!'. The 3 of them reunite by squealing, jumping up and down and repeatedly hugging (as much as is possible with 20kgs bouncing on your back).

We were back in Germany, Berlin to be exact, and we were staying with Loulou. Loulou has been our friend since Grade 1 and moved from Cape Town to Berlin earlier this year. To see a familiar face was great; for the familiar face to be Loulou was grand!

Our timing had been great. Loulou was moving into an amazing new apartment, which Raph and I immediately fell in love with. So we merrily spent the day helping her schlepp everything to the third floor and building a bed, desk, chairs and cupboards (ah, the beauty of Ikea) and getting everything from her old apartment by tram. After a ridiculously productive day, we cracked a bottle of celebratory champagne.

Day 2 called for another reunion. Again, we ran through the crowds, shouting like hysterical teenagers. Svenja is also a school friend, who moved back to Berlin and who we hadn't seen for over 2 years. Man, I love reunions!
Raph and I tried the true Berliner Currywurst. The rest of the day was spent reminiscing over them good old school days.

Our two personal tour guides showed us Berlin in a day. Brandenburger Tor, Alexanderplatz, East-Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie, you name it, we did it! In the 35 degree heat, I'd like to add.
The sweltering heat subsided at about 8 and gave way to a perfect Berlin, with candlelit restaurants, street musicians strumming their guitars and the colours of the graffiti deepening.

We thoroughly enjoyed being able to sleep in, lazing around in pajamas and watching our favourite German series 'Türkisch für Anfänger'.

On our last day we rummaged through the Mauerpark flea-market and went to a small festival by a lake. Dancing to awesome beats, while the heat gave way to a thunderstorm.
As a grand finale, ex-teachers of ours invited us to dinner, so we got to indulge in homemade amazing lasagna and chicken and conversations about home.

On the morning we left, Raph looked at me and said 'I really, really like it here.'
'I know, I don't want to leave either,' I replied.
