After reveling in the metropolis of Frankfurt, having marveled at the plethora of streets (no more one-street-village!) and relearning how to navigate through a hoard of city bustlers without being mowed over like a hapless pingpong ball, we decided it was time to visit our favorite Slovenian friends in Bodenmais - Ana and Domen, or code names Eloise and Guy. The six hour train ride was easily passed by hosing ourselves at the German village names, Zwiesel and Bettmannsäge being on top of the list (yes, there is now a list...).

The first night the bottom half of the sleeper couch crashed to the floor. While this didn't disturb us much - we simply reshuffled and went back to sleep - the land lady's dog bellow us almost suffered a nervous breakdown.

As the tour of Bodenmais pretty much begins at the hotel where Ana and Domen work and ends 2 minutes away at the glass garden, we took a day trip to Passau.

"If I had to live anywhere in Germany, I would live in Passau!" Ana declared, as Katja, the Slovenian navigation system, safely steered us into the little Bavarian town. Snuggled against the Austrian border, Passau is known as "the city of three rivers", as it's the joining point of the Donau, Ilz and the Inn. Ana steered us along the riverbank, showing us Passau in all its picturesque glory while Domen happily snapped a million photos with his high tech camera, which is never far from his person.

After we'd gorged ourselves on the best Döner in all of Germany, as well as ice cream, we dragged our disgustingly full stomachs to the car. "Look at us with our two adopted African children," Domen mused. "I feel like Madonna!"
