today i leave naxos and head to santorini on a ferry.
when i first arrived here, i walked around the main town and went to the beach. the beach is perfect, but when the sun goes behind a cloud, it gets just a little too cold. i got a well appointed sun burn on my back. there are a zillion germans here, all looking like they've layed out at the beach every day for the past 30 years. it's a look, i suppose.
i was a little lonely when i first got here, after being around so many people in athens. but now i love it. i went into a store owned by an italian last night, and he was incredulous that i was travelling alone. i told him i liked it that way, and i don't think he believed me.
yesterday i climbed to the top of one of the mountains here, up to a monastary. just to do it--not with any investment in getting it done or exacting some benefit. it was lovely. goats chatted with me along the way. i could see the whole port side of the island. i read a little of plato's republic, and delighted in reading about piraeus, where i'd just been.
that's all there is to report.
