Whilst we waited at the dock we checked out the strange sea creatures on offer. Sea Horses, Terrapins (de-shelled) and Starfish stank the place out, so we were glad to get onto the ferry, which was a smooth 2 hour journey back to the mainland.

We arrived in Saigon at 8pm, and although we had booked in at Kim & Friends Guest House, we had been double booked, but he found us 2 rooms in 2 different hotels. Our room had great views of Pham Ngu Lao, the Khao San Road of Saigon, but Lee and Michelle's was cigarette ridden. We showered and explored the local bars until it past midnight and Lara turned the grand old age of 25.

10/2/11
We were in a strange building that we couldn't leave until 8.30am, so Jamie's idea of surprising Lara with cake and croissants had to wait for an hour. After indulging at breakfast, we checked into a 4 bed room with Lee and Mich at Luan Guest House. We embarked on Lonely Planet's suggested walking route around Saigon. This included visiting the Fine Arts Museum, the War Remnants Museum, the grand Post Office, the Opera House and a great ice cream parlour. We finished with birds eye, sun set views of the City sipping cocktails at the Sheraton Hotel bar, on the 23rd Floor

We planned to eat at one restaurant but it had gone past serving time. We happened upon a gem of a restaurant/bar called Ciao Cafe, enjoying the interior and Lara's birthday meal. We decided to live it large in Saigon's club scene and headed to Q Bar, but that was shut for Tet (New Year). A local recommended Apocalypse Now, which played awful, but extremely loud pop music mash ups. We partied there till around 3am and then made the mistake of thinking that the walk home would sober us up. 5 minutes around the corner from our guest house, one of the notorious motorbike cowboys came out of nowhere and attempted to grab Michelle's bag. As it was across her body she was dragged along smashing her head on the back of the motorbike and floor. They escaped with nothing, but a passerby saw her camera on the floor and sneakily picked it up. Jamie and Lee were quick to grab him and claimed it back. Lara kept pressure on the wound until some nice locals took us to the nearby hospital on the back of their bikes. It resulted in a couple of stitches and a big headache but it could have been a lot worse.

Our only full day in Saigon was a day full of ups and downs. As usual Lara's birthday was eventful, from the majestic architecture, to the sorrow and complete shocking reality of the War Museum, to watching over the city with a cocktails and partying all night, to the dramatic end of the night.

11/2/11
Slept till around 11am, as Lee and Mich didn't get back from the hospital till 6am. We enduldged in a hungover KFC, which only reminded us that we much prefer the local cuisine. We went back to our hotel and waited for our 3pm bus to Mui Ne.
