So what about Lima, right?! Well, it is a just a fine old city to visit... for a few days. Unfortunately the central area is quite unfriendly at night and one must find an alternate neighborhood to call home. I choose to stay in the outskirts of Barranco at a place called Point Lodge. It's convienently located next to the ocean and the upscale barrio of Miraflores.
I would recommend the Point to anyone who doesn't mind slapping down a few extra coins for free internet, billiards and an in-house bar. In addition, the locals in the area are quiet friendly too. I frequenting enjoyed a local sandwich shop/bar where old men sipping wine would sing into the evening hours. Very communal.
Overall my time was spent in a very laid-back and casual manner. Only once did I manage to get down to the central area to check out some sites. But it was a good visit. The San Francisco church and its catacombs are not to be missed! Who could skip a well of skulls?
With a fresh haircut and shave I waved Lima and Peru a fond farewell on that late June afternoon. It was a great visit and I look forward to the day I can return to this amazing country.
