After a grueling 24 hours, we've finally made it to Beijing.

And boy is it busy.

After getting through the airport, and taking the train into the city, we took on the subway. What a task it was. Not because of the difficult sign posts or the many directions we could take; that was all fine. The culture shock was getting to grips of the vast amount of people on the platform. Think the tube but on acid. When changing trains, Lauren almost got trapped between the doors because she couldn't get on! Finding our way out, we got to Sunrise Hostel, near the Forbidden City and quickly went to sleep.

Today we've visited the Forbidden City and Tia'namen Square, and its turned out to be a glorious day. Before that though, taking a stroll through the street markets seemed appealing. So did the food, that is until you've sen a few live scorpians dying a slow death on a stick. We played it safe and went for the chicken. Moving on we found out that people love to hassle you. For us, two people seperately started talking to us in a (very friendly way and wanted to show us their artwork. Top hint; politely take your leave, and never say it's your first time here.

We start tomorrow quite hectically. First we need to find a hostel to stay an extra night at least. Then we need to head to Beijing West Station to find out when we can get tickets on a sleeper train to Xi'an, and then we need to find our way to Badaling at the Great Wall. There are tour offers for different parts of the wall, but we're attempting to do it independently, which may turn out to be an excellent decision, or disasterous.

Wish us luck!
