Arrived into the bus station safe and sound with everything with us this time.
Met a del boy tour agent Eduardo Generouso, even the name smacks of tack generous ed. He even had his own buisness cards. Any way he sorted us out with an apartment about 20m from the beach in Barra de Lagoa which is a small village 20 km east of Florianapolis on an island called Ihla de Santa Caterina.

The island is fantasitc, a real beach paradise. I think there were 45 beaches in all. Every beach was full of surfers. Incredibly the place was full of Israelies, we only met one group from Ireland, and of course 2 of the 3 knew people we knew.

On arrival we were pretty wrecked after 2 overnight bus trips, so we slept on the beach and the apartment for the day, real boring.
The rest of the days were made up of the beach during the day, grub and then down to the nightly beach party.
The second night there we met up with the irish lassies and a bucket load to drink. Of course we suffered the next day. Aoife was sick for 2 days after so it curtailed activities a bit.
Of course the carnival was in full swing in Barra de lagoa. We joined in there little parade. The crack was mighty. The main one was on in Florianapolis on the third day. We tried to go in but we were stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours. after 2 hours of standstill we jumped off the bus and walked to Lagoa for a massive dose of seafood. That seemed to have sorted out Aoife´s deli belly.

The next day we went into Florianapolis in the early afternoon to avoid the crowds and to buy our bus tickets for Foz do Iguazo. We did not want to a repeat of Rio to happen again.
We stayed there until late to see some of local carnival bands in the sombegeiro which is this purpose built stadium for the carnival parades. We thought that there would be a huge crowd at it based on the previous night, but it was only a few locals coming and going to see their local bands. We then headed into the city center where there were 3 open air concerts going on and a few more carnival bands on the streets.
The samba is really cool to hear but the brazilian pop is just wrank. The bus back to Barra de lagoa took 50 minutes so we gave ourselves 2 hours to get back the next day to catch the bus from Florinapolis to Foz de Iguazo.
Of course everything went according to plan. We got the bus in plenty of time. It drove us 2 Km and then came to a standstill for 3 and a half hours. Ourselves and 5 other israelies missed the bus to Iguazo.

The bus company were kind enough to give us free tickets for the first bus the next day.
So we stayed in Florianapolis overnight to make sure we would not miss the bus.

That night was the Gay carnival in Florianapolis. The lads were out in show. What is really strange is the amount of straight cross dressers around the place. I think they like any excuse to don a frock.

Anyway off to see the waterfalls
