It is Sunday and the Philadelphia Marathon is on today. The hostel was full the night before with entrants. Never having run a Marathon I thought it would start in the after noon. I made my way through the city around 11:00 am with the idea of catching some pre-race entertainment. There Race Finnish line was at the Art museum (Rocky Steps). Half way there I start seeing runners with silver foil blankets and medals that had actually finished the Marathon, Looking cold and wasted. Oops, I obviously missed the start. It was spitting rain which with the cold must have made it an uncomfortable race. When I reach the Finish Line the race clock shows 2 hours plus had past. They were already congratulating the winners and quoting the fastest times. Just past the Finnish line looked like a battle zone. there were bodies everywhere. Now that the race was over they were shivering.

A lot of the runners obviously turned up with extra layers for the start of the race and discarded them as they heated up running because the were piles of discarded clothes swept up and but into plastic bags at the side of the road. There were a couple of homeless guys going through the bags and walking away with some pretty colorful new track suits. I am sure they will start exercising and enter next year.
