Today's focus was one thing- a football game between the University of Southern California Trojans, and the University of California Bears. After the morning nap, we elected to drive as close as possible to the game, forgoing the use if LA's only viable public transport, massive hybrid busses.

We walked for about a mile or so, mainly through thousands if Trojans fans at their tailgate parties in the University campus. It was a pretty cool atmosphere, incredible what setups people had, with BBQs, flatscreen TVs, and plenty of beers.

The Trojans home ground is the Memorial Coliseum, home of the 1984 Olympics. As there is no NFL pro team in LA, the Trojans are very popular, and are regularly winners of the Pacific league and top ranked nationally. They are currently under sanctions for "salary cap" breaches (college football is amateur and USC was found to have paid a star running back $290k in gifts in 2006). So with a relatively cool and dull overcast day, the stadium was not full, with an attendance if around 65,000. The Trojans were up by 42-0 at half time, so the game was not a great contest. Still an exciting atmosphere, the game is so much better live, plenty of touchdowns, the bands were great, and Toby has matured enough to sit through a 4 hour game without going mental.
