We left our home of the last 2 nights, our canvas tent in beautiful Yosemite. After a few traffic jams on the road out, we stopped at Mariposa Grove, a much larger grove of those large trees, the Giant Sequoias.
We drove past Fresno, and ended up staying the night in Bakersfield, CA. Apparently it is California's largest oil producer, and the 4th largest agricultural producing county in the US. Judging from the agricultural views out of the car window, we can agree. It felt like the Mildura Riverina- dead flat, with countless orchards, vineyards, feedlots and other farming activities.
For dinner, we stopped at Pizzaville USA. It was a very effective family restaurant, essentially a beer hall serving pizza, and draft beer, wine and soda. The pizza was good, with a choice of 1, 2, 3, or 4 toppings only. Refreshingly simple. And the beer- well at $8 for a local pitcher or $9 for premium, a bargain.
