Day 24 Thing 1 Duke

We had stayed overnight at Holiday Inn Express at Danville, Va. Probably the least environmentally conscious hotel ever: we could not turn the massive aircon unit off, everything was disposable (plastic cutlery and plates at the breakfast buffet!) and there was Fox News on the foyer tv.
But we drove on to Duke, recent Alma mater of Marion (Antony's cousin) and Stefan (now in Toronto). Duke was originally a Methodist university, but had been fortunate enough to have several massive bequests from the Duke family. Now one of America's most famous private universities, it has a very impressive campus modeled on Cambridge.
It was a long drive to Charleston SC along the Interstates but thankfully no snarls. Gee the architecture of Charleston is different...
