Where I stayed
With the palm trees, smell of the Pacific, and Hispanic street-sweepers our brains know that we are in southern California, and that means tacos.
By lunchtime, we had walked two miles to Santa Monica, past Muscle Beach, countless beach volleyball courts, the pier, and the Santa Monica Stormwater Treatment Plant. Toby was exhausted, and parents were hungry, so ventured into a food court in search of sustenance. Ali went off to get tacos, but came back with a burrito - outstanding for food court food - I think it was the cilantro. But Toby didn't like it, and he didn't like avocado sushi either, se we had to walk home.
As punishment for his fussiness, we made Toby go for a swim in the Pacific. It was freezing, and we discovered that he isn't a surf boy, but he is definitely a sand boy. Sand everywhere, although apparently it doesn't taste much better than avocado sushi.
Unfortunately Shane was still recovering from his tonsil removal exercise, so we couldn't catch up with him, instead pursuing more tacos at LuLus on Main St. wonderful fish tacos, and Toby wooed the waitress and spilt my Mexican beer across the table. Only letdown was the coffee: in the world's largest economy, how could anywhere still serve dishwater as coffee.
But hopefully jet lag is now finito'd. Toby asleep, prepared for next step tomorrow.
