Anyway after sorting it out we walked down the road and managed to do some of the shopping we had planned to do
. It was about 12 at this stage and we headed down to the beach to meet up with Owen and Adele. They were decked out with beach chairs and umbrella so we followed suit and within minutes were settled in for a day on the beach. It was great fun people watching as we chatted and caught up with special friends. We saw all shapes and sizes and some of the most golden bodies ever. Lots to most of the ladies wear g-string bikini bottoms, no matter what size they are, and we did have a giggle or two at some of them. So yes, its not all models lying on the beach like you see in the movies. The day cruised by and we had a few refreshing swims in the sea. The sea built up quite a shore break towards the end of the day but no great body surfing waves to speak of.
The boys went to find food at lunchtime and came back with delicious sarmies and drinks. We sat on the beach and delighted in good food, company and scenery. Before long the sun started setting and we all started admiring our slightly pink bodies. Yip, there's nothing like a sunburn in Rio! We watched the sun go down and felt like the day had been spent in a perfect way.
We packed up, handed back our beach chairs and headed for the hotel. Owen and Adele had a shower at our hotel room as they had checked out of theirs
. Then we headed out to find a restaurant for dinner. We ended up at a lovely little spot and had really yummy, decent sized meals for a good price. After a round or two of cards it was time to call it a night. We said farewell to Owen and Adele who would be heading to the airport at 24:00 to catch their flight to Dubai at 03:00. Shame a long flight ahead of them but then a time of fun in Dubai. We have given them details to contact Luke and Kel so we'll see what happens.
We headed back to our hotel room looking forward to a shower and some body cream. It has been a super day and we have had a great time with the Boonzaiers. Rio has been the perfect place to share with friends and we felt sad to say good bye to them. But we have more great memories to add to our collection now and our time with them has been a highlight.
After a good sleep we wandered down to breakfast and enjoyed the fresh and delicious fruit on offer. We decided that we needed to pick up one or two more Christmas pressies and wanted to catch the shops open so headed back to our room to grab wallets and head out. Unfortunately Anton realized, via an sms, that someone had fraudulently purchased items on his cheque card so he got in touch with the bank and fortunately managed to cancel the card before any more purchases could be made. Interestingly the bank told him the transactions were happening in the US. That means someone (we believe in Brazil) managed to get the info off the card when Anton drew cash here in Rio and cloned the card to use for transactions in the US. We'll have to sort out the card when we get home but it was more the irritation of having to call SA and cancel the card. Precious minutes wasted listening to the on-hold music at the banks call centre!
