The day started leisurely packing up and enjoying a breakfast at the back packers small road side cafe, the heading to the airport to catch our 1100 flight to Gold Coast. This is another nostalgic piece of our trip, as it's where Anton went to university 10 years ago.

We were met by one of Anton's old university mates at the airport, Daiji, who very kindly is hosting us for two nights while we in Gold Coast. It was great to meet him and really nice to carry on friendships where they left off so easily.

We first off headed out to Burly Heads - which has a great view looking toward the main town of Gold Coast - aptly named - Surfers Paradise. It was really interesting to see how the city seems to have grown since 2002.

We then drove through to Anton's old uni area and went to lunch. There has been so much development in the area that we ate at a restaurant in a town-like suburb next to the uni that did not exist when Anton was studying. It was a nice lunch to catch up with Daiji and speak on old times.

After lunch it was time to show Tess the university. We drove passed the residences that Anton lived in for a time. We then went on a walk through the main university centre. The university is beautifully designed around a central lake, and care has been taken to ensure the university is a good looking university.

Anton was interested to see new wings and other buildings added to the university. The IT faculty no longer exists and a new faculty of Architecture and Sustainability has been added to the uni.

Its was really great to show Tess around and give her a window into part of my life before she was in it.

No visit to Bond would be complete without a stop at Don's, the uni pub. Anton have a bundy (local Ozzie rum called bundaburg) and coke in tribute to the old days. We very strangely, and there was no one else in the pub, ran into a couple of guys who studied 10 years ago, Larry and Paul, who were also having one for old times sake. Very strange. We sat and chatted a bit about the old days, current times and the uni - really great. Larry is back after 10 years to do his doctorate and Paul was on a visit from the UK. It was interesting to discuss how Australia has become so expensive and some of the issues it has caused on the Gold Coast.

We headed off after our drink to Daiji's house where we staying to get settled. Did some laundry, showered and chatted. Daiji has a stunning house very central and on the canal system which runs through much of the coast.

For dinner we headed out to Surfers to an Italian / Turkish restaurant. On the way we picked up Daiji's girlfriend, Kiyomi. We had a lovely dinner together, Daiji spoiling us.

We both had a really fun and happy day.
