An early start to the airport to catch the 0930 flight to Beijing. We were happy to find out that you could check in at the train station in central HK, a very sensible system and we didn't have to wait in any queues.
We got emergency exit seats, which was great and the food on Cathay is really good, so the flight was pleasant. Beijing is 3 hours flight north of HK( no time difference) which at this time of year means a 20 degree drop in temperature - so we have put away the summer weather gear and pulled on our woollies. The temp is around 4 degrees.
We had a transfer waiting at the airport which was very nice and easy. While the driver seemed like a nice guy, he drove scarily and smelt worse than he drove, which is to say a lot!
Our hotel is close to Tianamen Square, so it's nice and central and very livable, especially for the price - R1500 for 6 nights total!
We had a rest in the afternoon, and headed out to find a restaurant close by, recommended by the receptionist, to have Beijing Duck.
After a little bit of searching we found the restaurant and ordered the duck. It was a delicious dish and it is served with mini pancakes with yummy sauce and things to accompany it in the pancake. The meat is served on three separate plates as crispy skin, thin slices of breast, some crisp with meat and then as a soup too. A rather large dish which filled us up nicely and was delicious.
We are excited to start our China adventure tomorrow.
