After a few restless hours of sleep we got up just after 5 to catch our lift to the Phuket airport. Our lift didn't arrive on time so Phil, the guesthouse owner, kindly drove us to the airport. We saw the most beautiful sunrise over the bay. Wonderful.
Then we were checked in and flying to Bangkok. Due to only two flight options to Bangkok in the morning we had a couple of hours to kill in the airport. We went into the priority pass lounge and curled up with our books. Then it was time to go and we said our goodbyes to Thailand and boarded our Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong. Wow we were very impressed with the meal we received on board. Delicious duck curry with fruit and a kitkat for dessert. Super food and great service.
It was only a two hour flight but since we lost an hour we arrived in Hong Kong at 17:00. We then caught an express train to Hong Kong station and then a taxi to Hollywood drive. Unfortunately our taxi driver didn't quite get our hotel stop right so ended up walking the street trying to find it. Hong Kong is amazing. We've never seen so many skyscrapers in our lives! The plan was to meet Anton's university friend Borris for dinner as he lived near by. Unfortunately he was on stand by to fly, he is a pilot for Cathay Pacific, and was called up to leave at 21:00 at the last minute. We decided to meet for a quick dinner anyway so walked straight there instead of wasting time looking for our hotel. It was super for Tess to meet Borris and for Anton to catch up even though it was a quick dinner. Hopefully Borris will be flying to Johannesburg in the new year and we'll see more of him then. We discovered that our hotel was 500m from the restaurant so found it easily after that. We were upgraded to the businesses suite which is very nice. There is a bedroom and a little sitting room. Perfect for us considering the space issue in Hong Kong. We were both feeling pretty wrecked and still snotty so stayed in for the evening and watched Indiana Jones. The view from our room is ridiculous. Just pillars and pillars of buildings. We are looking forward to exploring Hong Kong's gems tomorrow.
