We were picked up by our super friend Khun Nee at 0730 to be taken to the airport for our flight to Phuket. She gave us each a delicious scented jasmine necklace and a round of friendship flowers - she is so sweet and such a gem.

We decided on Phuket for our next destination as it had direct flights from Chiang Mai and offers a wide variety of beach resorts and beaches. The booking process was very interesting learning about the various spots you can go to in Phuket. I always had the impression that it was pretty much only the most well know spot and chaotic beach of Patong, which didn't inspire us much. However on doing some research you really have a full variety from busy and crazy, to calm and serene.
As there are many hotels it also offers the best budget offers, all the way up to extremely fancy resorts. The only difficulty is wading through all the options to find something to suite you.
We decided on the Diamond Cottage Resort, on the south end of Karon Beach, which borders Kata Beach giving us both as options.
We arrived in Phuket after about an hour and a half flight, and caught a shared mini taxi to our hotel. It stopped at a number of hotels in Patong we were great full that they were not our stops, but it was very interesting to see Patong.
Out hotel is in a little touristy town and is built on the side of the hill. The is a bit of a hill to get to our rooms, but there is a golf cart to shuttle us up which is great.
After settling into our very nice rooms, we took a walk to Kata Beach. We stopped for lunch along the way. The beach was formed for tourism. It is a long finely white sand beach which curves gently around the bay. Many beach chairs line the top of the beach. I think our timing is perfect as we just at the start of the busy season and while there are many people, you don't feel, by any means, crowded.

The sea is very warm and calm. Now and again you get a small proper wave come through. You can hardly feel a difference in temperature between the air and the water.

We settled down to do some serious relaxing, and found we all fell asleep on the beach for a little while- very funny.
After having some sun downers from the beach bar, we walked back to the hotel to get cleaned up. We found the hotel pool on the way and had a little dip - before showers and a pre-dinner drink in our room.

We went down the road for a bite to eat. Meals are a little more pricey than Chiang Mai, but still reasonable.

We looking forward to a few days of relaxing now.
