The colour of the sea here is the most amazing mix of turquoise, royal blue and green and today we got to enjoy heading out and seeing some of the islands dotted near Dubrovnik. The day started with booking our ticket and then a hunt for some reasonably priced breakfast. Was easier said than done and we settled for a lovely view of the Main Street accompanied by a rather pricey breakfast. We then boarded the boat and headed for the first of three islands.
After a 45 minute sail passed the enormous town walls we arrived at Kolocep. Typical for the coastlines on the Dalmation coast it had rocky outcrops with shallow seas surrounding it. We decided to take a walk to see some little churches and eventually found the cemetery and very sweet church. Was a lovely, steep walk but worth it. Luckily we turned back when we did because we were the last to get on the boat! We we welcomed however with a plate of fresh fish, coleslaw and tomato. Nice simple lunch while we sailed to island 2 Sipan. Here we just took a gentle stroll along the pier. I think the fear of missing the boat kept us a little closer this time.
We then climbed aboard and headed to the last island Lopud.
Here we had two hours to enjoy so took a stroll along the promenade stopping for a delicious pistachio and choc chip ice cream along the way. Found a little park and had a swim at a tiny sandy beach. Apparently they brought in the sand to create a non pebbly beach but I'm not sure how true that is. The sea is stunning but our SA beaches are the real deal. Anton enjoyed an espresso before we climbed on board and headed back.
Definitely one of the best Thursdays we've had all year. We can,t get over the colour of the sea and the amazing stone towns here. Nothing like we've seen before. Heading off for a pizza now. The menus are quite Italian and of course full of sea food options although these are generally quite expensive. We are missing our veggies quite a bit but as they say, when in Rome!
Island hopping is a must for anyone visiting this part of the world. What a superb day!

Tessie, Anton your pics are just too delicious. Amazing there are still such beautiful places left on our bruised and abused planet.. Thanks for keeping so assiduously up to date - it's amazing that just yesterday you were swanning around these beautiful islands, and today we can see where you were!
