The idyllic town of Itacaré is where we spent 7 days in a highly recommended surf school.
We had such a fantastic time - and can now stand up and surf waves (small ones..) on longboards. There was a group of 7 of us - with 3 of us being absolute beginners. The 3 of us could stand up by the second day and we joined the rest of the group surfing 'the riverbreak' for the next 3 days.
We never knew how much hard work went into surfing - rashes and sores from the wax and aching muscles from so much paddling. However, to be clichéd, the feeling of riding the wave makes it all worthwhile.
We finished off the week with a BBQ which was without a doubt the best BBQ food we have ever eaten. So simple but so good - steak, prawns (shells on of course), sausages, chicken and a huge fish caught by spear by one of the instructors earlier in the day. The unique part was that instead of sitting down and eating we all just stood around the BBQ with drinks and as an item was ready the chef would simply carve it and then everyone would take a small piece with their fingers. Eating lasted 3 hours. Bliss.
We are enthused to continue to learn to surf in the future which might even mean a few trips to the beaches of Peru and Ecuador in August.
