After a great tip from one of the helpful hostel staff in Rio, we found ourselves busing it down to
Paraty.

Paraty is on the Costa Verde (Emerald Coast) and is a beautifully restored colonial town. We spent 3 days visiting beautiful secluded beaches as well as a trip to a nearby island for a local shrimp festival (eating the shells and legs was compulsory, heads optional). This was just the chill out that we needed after a hectic fews days in Rio.

Anyone who has spent anytime in Brazil will testify to the fact that a particularly memorable essential element of travel are the local buses – there are no designated bus stops, the destination written on the front of the bus is so small you need to wave them down just to read it, the drivers think they drive for Formula 1 and the suspension gave out a long time ago. All good fun.
