This past weekend was dedicated to celebrating Bryan's 24th Birthday! The troops were rallied and ready to hit the town. Much deliberation went into what exactly the festivities should entail....
Bryan and some of the guys had planned on having a "Guys Night" and all went out for Indian food and some beers On Friday. The girls decided to have a night in and watch a movie. Courtney, our solo Canadian friend had never seen The Hangover, so we knew something had to be done about that! So the girls came up to our place to utilize the two new couches we have added to the apartment!
After a good nights rest, everyone was ready to go on Saturday! We woke up to the nicest weather day we have had since we've been here! Clear skies and semi-warm weather! Perfect day to experience our first Lotte Giants Baseball game! Upon finding out that you are allowed to bring in your own cooler filled with snacks and any kind of beverage you want, we headed out to Mega-Mart to find a cooler to fill. We grabbed a cooler, filled it up with beer, and headed out 1 1/2 hour early to try to find seats so all 6 of us could sit together. We were actually lucky enought to find a row of 6 empty seats and set up shop for the game. The fans are really crazy about baseball here and the energy in the stadium was awesome, despite the fact that the team was playing terribly. We all enjoyed the warm weather, good company, and entertainment. We left somewhere around the 6th inning with the Giants down 15-3 to head home to freshen up and head to dinner.
Bryan and I had our first taste of Thai food for dinner. It was really good, but we are looking forward to tasting the real deal in Thailand this fall. We felt that a birthday was a great cause to finally try out one of the Korean techno clubs. So after dinner, we went and grabbed a starter drink at a local bar and then made our way Club Maktum. Lucky us, it was "Green Night" at Club Maktum. All of the neon lights in the club were green, including 3 glowing rings given out at the entrance on every person in the club. The club scene was actually a lot different than I expected. It was decently clean and less raunchy then an American or European club of that caliber. We all had alot of fun dancing to the techno tunes and soaking it all in. We continued to dance until around 4 in the morning when we decided it was about time to head on home! We spent most of Sunday resting.
Monday was Bryan's actually birthday. He woke up to a plate full of pancakes...yes, we somehow figured out how to make pancakes here! Then he was surprised with a chocolate cake at school, along with many, many handmade birthday cards from the kids. We had been looking forward to his birthday dinner for a looong time now. We were going to splurge on steak and potatoes at a place called VIPS. It was everything we were hoping for! It was pretty expensive but the steak was amazing and the au gratin potatoes were just as great! We were soo excited to finally have a good steak!! We went home fat and happy!!
Bryan got a Boston Red Sox hat, a North Face Fleece and his very own Yoga mat for his birthday. And is still waiting for a package from his parents to arrive with more! I think we can chalk his Bday to a success!! We hope everyone is doing great back at home...we miss you all!!
