After several years of using www.mytripjournal.com to document and share our travels we've decided to try something different. Change is good after all. I stumbled across www.travelpod.com by accident and am going to try doing a couple of entries here to see if this will meet our needs.
So, my first entry is from Pocahontas State Park just outside of Petersburg, Virginia. We arrived here after a drive of 533 miles which included an overnite stop at the Virginia Welcome Center. We left Atlanta on Sunday and had originally planned on spending a couple of days in either South or North Carloina. I was surprised when I couldn't find a campground in either of these states which would serve our needs so we opted to drive straight through.
We actually drove 430 miles on Sunday which is over double our usual. Why the hurry you may be asking yourselves? Well, we need to be in Washington DC on Saturday. We have three couples meeting us there on Sunday for a two week visit. Two couples are flying in from California, the other is driving in from Missouri. It should be a great visit and we are really looking forward to it - traveling through the Carolinas without stopping will be worth it, after all, we can always visit later.
The next couple of days will be spent checking out the historical sites here in Petersburg as well as nearby Richmond. I've already decided that we don't have enough time to see everything we are going to want to. We will be coming back through this area on our way to Florida this fall - wonder what the weather is like here in October?
