We knew a 70 minute turnaround at Doha airport was tight but the lady at check-in in Manchester assured us that 'they did this flight everyday' so there was no need to worry...yeah right! She didn't know there would be congestion Doha that meant we would be circling above the airport for 40 minutes!

And so we landed with 30 minutes to spare and rushed to the gate for our connecting flight to Colombo. Phew, it hadn't left yet and we'd made it on time. It was just about midnight by now and after giving a quick maths lesson to the lady at the transfer desk we managed to convince her we were delayed for more than 8 hours and therefore were entitled to a hotel for the night! And so we were transferred to a hotel in Doha for what was left of the night with another new passport stamp.

After 4 hours in bed, we were up again and back to the airport to check in for our new flight. We finally arrived in Colombo 24 hours after leaving Lorraine and John's and our trip had officially started...
