Back in Albuquerque and recovered from travel . . . at least at some level.  Remarks close to home include, "Do you think it's out of her system now?" and "How long do you give her?"  Well, if you care, I can answer that to some extent.

I have already started working for The Mountain Fund and am happy to be involved in their mission to partner with other non-profits and NGO's and to develop their own projects in an effort to end poverty in the mountain communities of Nepal and Peru.  It's a tall order.  So far, working with the medical trek, I have been the fortunate recipent of the rewards of giving to international communities in need.  Not only have I had the opportunity to see and explore the magnificient Himalayas, but the relationships with these people whose circumstances require different priorities have knocked me over the head with a cry for all people to have a commitment to understanding and patience, compassion and love in the world.  We are different, but for good reasons.  And it helps to understand those reasons.  This is what I am learning as I experience first hand places outside of my "box."  I would love to hear from any of you who have experienced the same and understand what I am saying.

Anyway, please visit The Mountan Fund site: http://www.mountainfund.org (bookmark it!) and see what we are up to.  This is one of many organizations that is doing very good work in the world.  Specifically, I will be managing the Gear4Good program (please send us your used outdoor gear and clothing!), leading a few treks in Nepal and Peru (yea!), and ultimately starting a new program called Outdoor Outreach New Mexico (offering outdoor programming to youth at risk in Albuquerque).  Keep in mind that one of the programs we are developing are "charity treks" in Nepal and Peru, some of which are service-based and some are just adventure-based, but all of which support philanthropic programs in these countries.  If trek itineraries are not yet posted on the site, keep checking back!  Tell your friends!

Thank you for reading my blog this fall and for your kind remarks and wonderful support during my travels.  Keep in touch, and come to Peru or Nepal with me!

Happy New Year!

Love, Ann
