Where I stayed
What I did
You think we learn but we never do. With yet another restless night we're going to conquer Nassau, Bahamas running on 5 hours of sleep. I agree with Vera, this vacation is making us more tired and restless than well rested and relax. Haha.
This time we purchased a shore excursion through Orbitz to snorkel with fish and end it with shark swimming. I've never gone snorkeling and I don't know how to swim. But not knowing how to swim has never stopped me from doing anything before and it's not going to stop me now. We're all well equipped. Vera with her waterproof camera, flippers, snorkel, goggles, swimsuit, sunblock, water and life vest. Though we were the only newbies with life vest I was still grateful I wore one.
Our first snorkel site had a lot of grey fish, the coral reefs were a little dead and I don't blame it looking so with all the ocean acidification going on in this world
Things were going great until I noticed that the waves were pushing us away from the ship. Switching hands, I had to swim with my left arm, kick with my feet and drag Vera with my right arm to get us closer to the ship. Good thing I'm diesel. Haha. But then I felt Will grab onto Vera and they both suddenly became too heavy for me to swim and drag back. I had to shout to Will to let go because he was weighing us down. Sorry Will but Marvin will come get you.
Second snorkel site was filled with black and yellow striped fish
I was sailing fine to the first snorkel site but somehow as we were completing the second snorkel site the boat started to rock really hard. I got nauseous and ended up throwing up my breakfast in the self hand pump toilet. I didn't even have much for breakfast but a grapefruit and some cereal but even that went down the toilet as I regurgitated it all.
Finally, the moment I've been waiting for. Swimming in shark infested waters. Caribbean gray sharks can grow up to 10 feet long. We were advised to stay near the rope and not to dangle our limbs around because this would attract the sharks. Do not stretch our your hands to take pictures because the sharks will think you are feeding them. If a shark grazes your leg do not kick it in the face. We have exactly 15 minutes to get in and get out of the water because after the food in the cage is gone, we will be the shark bait.
Well great after hearing all the deadly instructions I hesitated and didn't want to go in the water anymore
Vera didn't want to go in because she could barley swim with a float vest. Jenn had her period so we didn't want her in the water. She would have attracted way too many sharks. Will and Marvin, I have no idea if they went in.
I tried to slide as quietly into the water as I could. My heart beating 500 miles an hour. I dipped my head into the water and my heart was at ease because although the sharks were big, they were about 10 feet under us, making them look minuscule. I had to remember to keep the camera to my face but I was very tempted to stretch out my arms to take pictures of them.
With everyone up on board they were ready to lure the sharks up to the surface. It was crazy to see so many sharks up on the surface fighting for food. But I did manage to get a good video and a few pictures. The boat ride back wasn't as bad because I went and sat at the front of the ship. Besides, at this rate I had nothing left to regurgitate. Haha.
Boarded Carnival Sensation to have lunch, take a shower and get dressed for the night. We're going back out because the night is young and we have so much to live for. So much to discover. It was a bummer to find out that Columbus Tavern closed down because I was looking forward to good frozen drinks and fried conch. But I guess Senor Frogs will have to do. Had a frozen mudslide and it was amazing. I love baileys :)
We then hopped on a taxi van that took us to Paradise Island. I was even able to negotiate the cab driver to pay for toll. Haha. Me and my negotiating skills...lol. As we arrived I must admit, Paradise Island is absolutely magnificent. Its like a dream come true any princess to live in with absolute beauty. We were lucky that when we arrived it was 6pm and the aquarium was now free because it was after hours. Saved us all $30 each of entrance fee. Was not intentional but since it's free why not? Saw a lot of different types of fish, lobster, manta rays, starfish. After the aquarium we decided to walk around to find the Mayan temple slide. The island was so big we never thought we would spend a whole night there. Passing through man made waterfalls, bridges, pools, even stumbled upon a wedding ceremony. If I could I would love to have my wedding at Paradise Island. Perhaps even go on a honey moon there
By the time we reached the Mayan Temple and the Palace, it was closed. A major slide resort. Being a trouble maker, Vera and I crossed the line anyway and attempted to go in. But the door was locked :(
At this point, I wish I had my bathing suit to swim in the pool and lazy river. But what I really wanted was to end the night on a beach. I have never been to the beach at night and wanted to know how it felt to walk the shoreline at night. Well, just as I said so, my wish came true. Because we ended up finding a secluded beach.
It was about 9pm, the beach secluded with no one but us. It was the most wonderful feeling i've had. I took my shoes off and walked into the water. As I stood there, I let the waves crash and engulf my feet. I felt the wet sand breaking apart and covering my toes. I stood there and looked out into the deep dark waters. With absolutely nothing on my mind but serenity. I listend closely to what a difference the ocean sounded like at night versus during the day. For once in a long time I looked up and was able to see the stars. It was magnificent.
I took a self stroll along the beach and wished I had someone special to share it with
After clearing my thoughts, we decided to go back home. But it was so dark and the place so big that it took us a while to find out way out. Hopped car service and was headed back to Carnival Sensation. Had a late night dinner and joined a few others for Carnival's Deck Party! What a way to end the night. A deck party doing thee macarena, train, chicken dance, dollar dance and more. If you haven't noticed, I love to dance my heart out :)
Being that we were running on a 5 hour sleep, you bet I was exhausted. Was ready for bed to make the last day a relaxing day.
