Time heals all they say.  I'm glad because I needed a few days of quiet to recover from my busy spring break.  We settled back into our routine of morning classes and free afternoons, dotted with an excursion here and there.  On Tuesday, April 24, we had an after field trip to the Austerlitz battlefield.  One of the most important battles sites of the Napoleonic Wars, is located not far from Olomouc.  We were able to see where the actual battlefields were located and toured a nearby museum.
On Friday April 27, we traveled to Ostrava and met a former study abroad student, Ross, who now lives there.  A few of us headed back to Olomouc after a tour of the city hall, observation tower and a visit to the Harley Davidson business that Ross is manager of.
May 1 or May Day is a national holiday in the Czech Republic. Called Labor Day, it is a national holiday for workers, but it is also associated with an ancient pagan ritual of celebrating spring.  Our group travel to Rosnav pad Rodhostem, which was about an 1 1/2  hour train trip from Olomouc.  It is basically a living history museum and some of us compared it to Pioneer Village in Minden or the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island.  They even had a May Pole raising and dance with traditional clothing and songs.  I have always liked history and discovering how people lived and worked in earlier times, so I enjoyed it immensely.
On May 4th we leave for Krakow Poland and Auschwitz.
