Another song title - from Chicago in 1976!

I'm so glad we took advantage of our bus pass these past two days – it was only valid for 48 hours and we were able to get around and see lots while it was fine weather.  We got up this morning to rain and it hasn’t stopped all day – really quite heavy and generally not particularly conducive to roaming around being a tourist.

But first last night – we tried another restaurant on the hotel list – Fagiolini’s – a little Italian place just a couple of minutes walk down Lexington Avenue.  We had a lovely meal again – Craig had the pizza with meatballs on top and I had penne with a chicken and Vodka sauce – really tasty.  As it was really quite a small place the tables were all close together and so we got talking to the couple at the table next to us – quite an interesting paid – they had just arrived that morning on the QE2 from Southhampton – they said it was fantastic.  They live in South Africa in Port Elizabeth for 8 months of the year but have a home in Bournemouth in England where they theoretically come for the English summer – but it hasn’t been up to much recently they said.  He was Scottish and retired from the legal department of Lothian Regional Council and she was English and also retired. They both decided to retire to South Africa – mainly because it was cheap and sunny – it appears they met and married there.  Always interesting to hear about someone else’s lives.

So this morning – after sleeping ALL night – wonderful – I wakened at 8am – starting to become normal again (or at least as normal as I can get!!).  We took off walking in the rain and found a little diner to have breakfast – not as tasty as yesterdays but quite edible – and then headed for Macy’s – couldn’t let a visit to New York go by with checking out the largest department store – in the world I think the sign says.  It certainly is massive and we probably only checked out a tenth of it.  But the service is hopeless.  At one stage I was all set to buy a couple of Tshirts for Josh and Curtis – I went to three different checkouts – no-one to serve within cooee – finally found a central one with a huge queue so gave up, dumped the Tshirts on a rack and headed off.  We moseyed in and out of a few stores – like H & M – but it was so wet outside that we were gradually getting soaked to the skin.  So we headed back to the hotel – a fair old hike and one in which we got really really wet.  We’re now back in our hotel room with clothes hanging up to dry all around the place.  I did suggest a museum to Craig – but he wasn’t in to that – nae culture!!

However it works out OK – we’re off to see the Lion King tonight and have to be at the theatre about 6.30pm to collect our tickets.  Not sure what we’re going to do about eating tonight – maybe a sandwich before we go and some supper afterwards I think.  So we’ll dry out now and get fancied up ready for a night on Broadway.
