After recovering from my cookery-induced illness in Chiang Mai I was on the first bus back to Pai, along with my friends Becky and Lauren.  It's funny how when you're travelling long-term, coming back to a place you've been to just once before feels so comfortable and familiar.  I headed over to Ting Tong bar where they are kindly providing me with accommodation, and in return I'll help promote the bar and do what I can to help out.  It was great to see my friends from the other night, who I think had thought that maybe I wouldn't come back after my unplanned extended stay in Chiang Mai.  Bang, one of the guys working at the bar, ran over to me, picked me up and cried, in his best Thai-Jamaican accent, "Sweetheart, you came back to me!", and I had to laugh when people kept saying "welcome home".

My first few days back in Pai were spent hanging out with the Ting Tong guys - the motto of the bar being 'Lazy Days, Crazy Nights'.  They're a great bunch and I feel so happy and relaxed hanging out with my new 'big brothers' - playing pool, watching DVDs, sleeping in hammocks and learning to cook Thai food, this time without giving anybody food poisoning.

Becky and Lauren had spent their first few days in Pai confined to their room, having picked up pretty bad cases of the 'traveller tummy' themselves.  In the time we've known each other, two weeks upon writing this, we've only spent one day so far when we've all felt healthy!  Once they got better we rented mopeds, two between the three of us, and used them to do some sightseeing in the beautiful countryside around Pai.  Pai is a small town nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains.  There are numerous waterfalls and some hot springs that we have been to see, and every drive is a scenic one with layers of mist-covered mountains disappearing into the distance as if they go on forever.

We've had some crazy nights out in Pai too, and although we have enjoyed exploring the varied nightlife we always of course end up back at Ting Tong, and that is where my best memories of this place have been formed.

On my last night in Pai, after Lauren and Becky had left, my beautiful Thai friend Ax treated my friend Rebecca and I to a night in a gorgeous luxury resort in Pai.  It was probably the nicest place I have ever stayed in and I will never forget his generosity and the fun time we all had there.  I can't wait to return the hospitality when he visits England in December!
